Build Your Own AI Research Assistant

Abstract

AI tools have been marketed at researchers, be those Claude Science or OpenAI Prism, and many of our familiar tools now include AI features, whether we want them or not. In this workshop we will cover how to set up an AI research assistant on your device that you can tailor to your workflow and for the tasks where you think AI would be useful, be those literature reviews, writing support, or argument analysis.

This workshop builds on my five-part blog series on setting up a personal AI research assistant: the overview of the whole setup, sources of information covering the personal knowledge management system that grounds the assistant in your own work, the runtime describing the software and models connecting the pieces, the agent definition specifying the roles your assistant should fill, and finally the use cases tracing how information flows into AI-generated answers.
