Off-Task Thoughts and Self-Regulated Learning in Video-Based Learning

09/2024 · 1 min read
Abstract
This presentation highlights findings from ongoing PhD research investigating the association between off-task thoughts, such as mind wandering, and self-regulated learning processes during video-based learning. Through a multi-method approach encompassing theory development, meta-analyses, and empirical studies, this research sheds light on how off-task thoughts influence the learning process and how learners adapt their strategies in response. The presentation discusses the prevalence and impact of different types of off-task thoughts and observations of students’ self-regulatory reactions. This research aims to contribute to the theoretical understanding of the interaction between off-task thoughts and self-regulated learning in the context of video-based learning and to evaluate the impact of that understanding for research into learning and teaching.
